A WORLD class musician has returned to his Fenland roots after 17 years touring the globe for a gig at the village hall where his musical career began four decades ago.
Sean Moyses, 48, regarded as one of Europe’s top professional banjo players, began his musical career in the 1970s playing in the Moyses Family Band.
One of his first concerts was at West Walton village hall and now the star banjo player will be appearing there again for a gig that takes him back to his early days.
“Touring for 17 years has been a fantastic experience but it is also hard work. It was time to lay down some roots which is why I decided to come back home to Emneth,” said Sean who has moved back to the area with his Japanese wife Miyuki and his nine month old daughter Kiki.
He will be playing at West Walton village hall for a gig on November 23 and in the meantime is still working doing gigs ranging from a massive concert in America to a small concert for residents at Conquest Lodge care home in March.
Starting out at the age of 11, encouraged by his musical family, Sean mastered the ukulele, mandolin, five-string banjo, plectrum banjo, guitar and uke-banjo.
His musical career has taken him to venues ranging from the Munich Opera House in Germany to the Kobe Jazz Festival in Japan with some of the leading jazz musicians including Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball.
His ambition of appearing with the famous Pasadena Roof Orchestra became a reality and with them he has performed major concerts, television and radio broadcasts across Europe.
He has performed musical comedy with Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band, was a member of Rod Mason’s Hot Five and has guested with notable bands such as The Barrelhouse Jazzband, Papa Bue’s Viking Jazzband, Joe Wulf’s Gentlemen of Swing, The Best of British Jazz Gala, The Aces of Syncopation and Rolf Wagemann’s European Top Eight concerts.
“My passion is playing music, it is why I get up in the morning, so I am happy doing small and large venues, it is all about the love for the music,” he said.
