I HAVE written on a number of occasions on this subject but feel I should again after the last few months of witnessing the slaughter of wild animals and birds in the name of sport.
As many of your readers will know, we try and take care of wildlife on our farm, feeding pheasants etc 365 days a year at great expense to ourselves.
During the winter our feeding stations have been damaged and the wheat stolen on a number of occasions. Police have been great in doing what they can.
Shoots have many hundreds of acres of land to shoot on, but find it necessary to beat and shoot within 10 metres of my boundary.
On Saturday most of the pheasants that were feeding in my garden were killed within seconds. I stood and watched in horror as gentleman got out of a Land Rover and flushed a pheasant into an orchard where the beaters and gunmen were preparing for the kill.
The shooting organisations call it sport, I don’t think so! I find many injured birds. This is totally unacceptable in 2013.
In this supposedly civilised society in which we live I think this barbaric sport should be stopped
