The Town Crier of Chatteris, Lawrence Weetman, joined over 120 other town criers from around the world in making a simultaneous ‘Cry For Peace’ at the beacon lighint ceremony on Remembrance Sunday (November 11).
The cry, which was coordinated to take place in every location at 7.05pm, was part of the ‘Battle’s Over, A Nation’s Tribute’ event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.
Chatteris also joined 1,000 other towns and villages across the country in lighting its beacon, sounding the ‘Last Post’ on a bugle and ringing out the church bells of St Peter & St Paul’s church in High Street.
Lawrence Weetman was appointed as town crier by Chatteris Town Council in November 2014 and takes part in various events, including the town’s annual summer festival.
