Local MP Steve Barclay is demanding answers over a busy commuter train service running via Manea to Cambridge.
Mr Barclay, the North East Cambs MP, has written to Claire Perry, transport secretary, asking why the busy 7.38am CrossCountry Service only has two carriages while less busy services have three.
He said: “A number of constituents have contacted me to raise concerns over the 7.38am CrossCountry Service from Manea to Cambridge.
“The service is extremely busy, with commuters travelling to Cambridge, holiday makers with large cases making their way to Stansted Airport, alongside passengers, some of which are with bicycles. Despite ongoing, serious overcrowding, there are only two coaches.”
Mr Barclay said his constituents have expressed ‘bemusement’ as “many other services running through Manea station run with three coaches, however, the busiest service of the day only runs with two coaches.”
He has also written to Andy Cooper, managing director of CrossCountry, to request them to look at running an extra coach and to explain what steps need to be taken for this to happen.
