Strawberries and cream helped people in Doddington brighten up what was a soggy day on Saturday.

The village strawberry fair took place in St Mary's Church and raised £450, which will go towards the £30,000 needed every year to keep the 13th century building open.

There was a variety of stalls and games to challenge visitors, including a final chance to take part in a general knowledge quiz, which has been running in Doddington for the last month.

Vicki Smith, one of the event organisers, said: "The strawberries and cream proved so popular that even if we had had twice as many it would still not have been enough."

The church is also holding its annual gift day tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am-midday, where people can donate money to go towards the running costs.
