A £50 cash prize will be given to two of the best dressed shop windows in March this festive season ahead of annual Christmas lights switch-on.

The town council has agreed to offer the two cash prizes in addition to the two trophies given out by the Christmas Lights Committee.

Clive Lemmon, town clerk, said: “Our aim, as always, is to make March an extremely attractive town to visit.

“To brighten up our town even more, we and the committee hope that all shops and business will decorate their windows for the festive season.”

There’s no need to enter as all of the shops will be judged between Wednesday, December 5 and Sunday, December 9. The winners will be informed the next week.

The competition coincides with the annual Christmas lights switch-on that this year is said to be the biggest, with even more new lights.

The event will take place on Friday, November 30 at 7pm in the town centre.
