Charity car washes have raised more than £2,000 through a series of events across Cambridgeshire.

Crews across the county held four car washes to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Manea on-call firefighters joined up with Team A-Mayesing to scrub cars outside the village’s Rose and Crown pub. The team effort raised £510, split between FFC and MIND.

Watch Commander Mark Milner said: “The crew at Manea would like to say a huge thank you the fantastic people from Team A-Mayesing for helping us and the residents of Manea for turning up and donating.

“The event has helped raise vital funds for a very deserving cause and hopefully has helped Team A-Mayesing one step closer to their goal of raising lots of money in memory of Aaron.”

Chatteris firefighters raised just over £400 at their event earlier in the month and Gamlingay’s on-call crew topped £320.

Cambridge’s Parkside Place Community Fire and Rescue Station welcomed hundreds of cars through its doors at the end of March, to raise a total of £829.50.

Martin Ockenden, charity representative at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It has been a fantastic month and we are thankful to every single person who has brought their car, van or even bike to us to clean.

“These are memorable community events and the crews work extremely hard to raise the cash, so the continued support of the public is much appreciated.”
