VERY recently planning applications for wind farms have been formally submitted to both Fenland and South Holland District Councils.
Local opposition is determined, organised, well-researched and unanimous against the proposals. What we are witnessing is a striking example of the Big Society in action with residents coming together with common purpose to protect their environment and to fight vested interests motivated by profit.
However, the real test is whether such Big Society empowerment will win the day and if the democratic will of the local Fenland community will prevail. If so, then it can be argued the Big Society really does have teeth and is already at the starting line. If not, then Mr Cameron - Big Society? You’re having a laugh!
