Ely Consort staged a well attended concert in the Hayward Theatre, Ely, with music by Sir Michael Tippett and Carl Orff providing a contrasting evening of two distinctive composers.
Waitrose and the ‘Music Matters’ funding allowed for the evening to go ahead and attendance was in excess of 200.
There were great first half performances by Ely St Mary’s Junior School Choir, immaculately turned out in their uniforms, along with the soulful renditions of the Tippett Spirituals by Ely Consort, culminating with some passionate playing by The Cann Twins.
The powerful opening of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is one of the most instantly recognisable pieces of music of all time. The cast of one hundred musicians brought this most vivid of choral pieces to life in spectacular fashion.
A spokesman for Ely Consort said they were delighted with the attendance “and was an excellent affair. Hopefully the performances lived up to the mantra of the kind sponsorship that we receive from Ely Waitrose and their ‘Music Matters’ fund, with collaboration between local groups.”
