For when you are the older statesman of a family brewing firm that dates from the 18th Century - and is thriving well into the 21st Century - the choice of staging the party in your own brewery proved irrestistible.
In 2002, Mr Elgood handed over the day-to-day running of the company, which has pubs throughout Fenland and beyond, to his daughter Belinda, who is now managing director, but he continues to play an active role in the business. His other two daughters, Claire and Jenny, are also working directors.
