BRITAIN’S only undefeated boxing world champion Joe Calzaghe will officially open a £2million leisure complex at Tydd St Giles Golf & Country Club on Thursday.

Councillor Alan Melton, Leader of Fenland District Council and Cllr Vivian McRae, Mayor of Wisbech Town Council will also be in attendance.

Calzaghe will be unveiling the new complex at Kirkgate near Wisbech at 12noon.

At 12.30pm a ribbon cutting will take place to officially announce the opening of the new facilities.

The Welsh boxer was voted 2007 BBC Sports Personality of the Year and retired in 2009 with a perfect professional record of 46 wins and no losses.

Adrian Hurst, managing director, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Joe will be helping us unveil our new build. We’re really excited to be re-branding as Tydd St Giles Golf & Country Club.

“He owns a property at one of our sister sites in Barbados and we are delighted he has taken time out of his busy schedule to help us unveil our new building.”

The leisure complex will feature a heated indoor pool with a coco jet machine, steam room, sauna and a fully air-conditioned fitness suite.

The building was constructed by Wisbech-based Bespoke Oak Supplies Ltd.
