BOXING legend Dave “Boy” Green will be the guest of honour when he officially opens a �1.7million extension at a Fenland primary school next week.

The development at Manea Primary School, near Chatteris, includes a new outdoor learning space, a music room, a group room and new kitchen facilities.

The Chatteris-born icon will open the development on Wednesday at 10am, alongside Cambridgeshire County Council chairman councillor John Powley.

During a seven-year career, spanning 105 fights, Green won the British and European Light-Welterweight titles and the European Welterweight title. He turned professional in 1974 and his “Boy” nickname was suggested by his manager and trainer Andy Smith and came from a Chatteris boxer called Eric Boon, who fought in the 1930s.

Sarah Eastol, the school’s chair of governors will give a speech before pupils give a presentation of music and dance.
