MY favourite quote of the week came from Maureen Taylor, the coroner who presided over a treasure trove inquest into fragments of a gold ring found in a field.
The Brancaster ring was unearthed by Roy Adams, a metal detector from Ely, who took the 300-year-old ring to English Heritage which in turn passed it to the British Museum.
Ms Taylor agreed that the details surrounding the discovery be sent to the British Museum which will agree if a reward is paid to Mr Adams.
“It’s surprising what you find in fields,” said Ms Taylor. “It makes a change from vegetables.”
