WISBECH is to get its own Cabinet post in a range of appointments announced today by Fenland Council Leader Alan Melton.
The job has gone to town council leader David Oliver who retained his seat on the district council at last Thursday’s elections.
“David brings to the table a wealth of local experience,” Cllr Melton said. “His advice will be invaluable.
“Wisbech is the area identified as mostly in need of investment. Deprivation and low skills issues still persist.”
Cllr Melton said the needs of four Fenland towns were important but he felt there were special problems in Wisbech that required some special help.
He added that Wisbech was the only part of Fenland liable to attract European funding to tackle areas of deprivation and special need and he wanted someone with “energy and passion” to champion the town.
MORE appointments to follow.
