COMPANY chairman Nigel Elgood did not have to look too far to decide where to hold his 70th birthday party.

For when you are the older statesman of a family brewing firm that dates from the 18th century - and is thriving well into the 21st century -- the choice of staging the party in your own brewery proved irresistible.

In 2002 Mr Elgood handed over the day-to-day running of the company, which has pubs throughout Fenland and beyond, to his daughter Belinda, who is now managing director, but he continues to play an active role in the business. His other two daughters, Claire and Jenny, are also working directors.

Festivities began when his grandchildren each presented him with a birthday cake.

Following a speech by Terry Stork (Elgood's Trade Director), Nigel was presented with a gift from all the staff at the brewery.

Guests then proceeded to quaff beer, wine and champagne and enjoy the ample supply

of birthday cake!
