A BRIDE'S family claims she burst into tears after being shouted at by a hotel owner after scenes which her mother said could have come straight out of Fawlty Towers.

Marilyn Morley said: "He was very rude and just like Basil Fawlty. My daughter was in tears a day after her wedding. He was shouting at both her and my son-in-law and threatening he would get the police if people didn't pay."

Mrs Morley says guests at the wedding of her daughter Helen Morley and Phil Davies-Pye, both of March, had to wait more than an hour for food and were told by Jonathan Davis, owner of the Rose and Crown at Wisbech to go to McDonald's if they wanted fast food.

Mr Davis said he apologised if he upset the bridal party and said he would rethink the way some things were done at the hotel.

"I did get annoyed with them, but I am not normally quick tempered," he said. "I feel we are taking the stick for some things which went wrong elsewhere. I think things got a bit too much for the bride and that is why she burst into tears."

The couple tied the knot at a ceremony at Peckover House, Wisbech, where they held their reception.

But many guests booked into the Rose and Crown and although they were happy with their rooms, they were far from satisfied with the time spent waiting for food to be served during their three-day stay.
