AT the latest meeting, opened by chairman Barbara White, a thank-you letter was received from Elizabeth Childs and Gerald Setchfield for the flower display Freda Aspinal arranged for the town's Festival Week. It was reported that the Pennies Round the Poppy on July 15 at the Co-op supermarket raised £134.67.

The branch is organising a cookery book to consist of members' favourite recipes. Tony Chapman has offered to design the cover, Ann Wells has offered to do the printing - both free of charge.

A letter was received from county secretary Eileen White pointing out that Wendy Bromage at national headquarters has completed 25-plus years of service. It was agreed to donate £10 to her retirement gift.

Subscriptions, at £4.40 each, are due at the October meeting.

After a vote it was agreed not to continue with the annual branch handicraft, cookery and flowers competition. It was also agreed to donate £50 to county funds, £50 to national headquarters and £1,400 to the benevolent fund.

At the October meeting, tickets will be on sale for the ploughman's supper at £5 each. Contact the chairman on 01354 695486.

After tea break Roger Davis led the harvest festival service. An auction was then held with Gill Mayes as auctioneer, raising about £33.
