BUS companies in Fenland are the only operators in the county to reject a discount fares plan. The companies have declined an offer from Cambridgeshire County Council to sign up to a new £6-a-day unlimited travel 'multi bus' ticket. The new ' ticket lets passengers travel on services run by nine different operators in Cambridgeshire, without having to pay out for separate fares every time they change buses. So far, the tickets can be used with 90 per cent of buses in the county for journeys starting or ending in Cambridgeshire. But companies operating services in the Wisbech and March area, including Emblings, First Coaches, Fowlers, and Norfolk Green , are not taking part in the deal.A county council spokesman said: "We asked all operators to join the scheme, currently in its pilot stages, and nine agreed to take part."It is the operators' decision on whether they take part, but unfortunately the Wisbech to March operators haven't agreed to join 'multi-bus'. "We hope that if it turns out to be a success, they will see the benefits and join later."The tickets, which cost £6 for a daily pass and £25 for a weekly version, were set up in connection with the bus companies.John Embling, who runs Emblings Coaches, said: "We did look into taking part, but it was decided that we would lose rather than gain from it."We don't operate enough services for the scheme to be of benefit to us. Perhaps if we operated more services, it would be different."Councillor John Reynolds, Cambridgeshire County Council cabinet member for environment and community service, said: "Cambridgeshire is one of the few authorities which has seen a rise in bus passenger levels, bucking a national trend that has seen a decrease outside London.
