March's twice-weekly market, in line with markets in the other Fenland towns, has recorded a downturn in fortunes.
Latest figures from Fenland District Council shown that income from stallholders continues to drop, and in the last financial year revenue fell by £10,000 across the Fenland towns.
Mark Saunders, Fenland's chief accountant, says the costs, revealed in the annual budget forecast, also reflect rising costs for maintenance.
Overall costs to the council this year have risen to £85,000 compared to £58,788 last year.
He added that cleaning costs have also risen by £7,000.
