Some five waste disposal lorries look to have been destroyed by a fire that broke out around 10pm last night at their Hostmoor Avenue, March, depot.

Fire crews from across the area were called to the scene and eye witnesses spoke of hearing explosions – believed to be fuel tanks catching fire.

Roads in the area were sealed off as police diverted traffic and kept passers-by from getting near to the scene.

Glazewing is a waste management and recycling company with depots in March and Wisbech and has it headquarters at West Dereham, near Downham Market.

Last year it had issues with its operating licence after a public inquiry raised a series of concerns.

Directors Jonathan and Simon Miles were disqualified from being transport managers for two years following a decision by deputy traffic commissioner Miles Dorrington.

Jonathan Miles said at the time that the firm was not planning to appeal the decision but would not cut any jobs or reduce its service as a result of the ruling.
