A NUMBER of businesses in Chatteris have now signed up to the crime fighting scheme, Shop Watch.

This week officers will visit nine shops in the town to hand out information about persistent offenders in the area.

The Shop Watch scheme sees police and shops working together to crack down on criminal activity such as shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.

Those who join the scheme will have regular communication with the police to share intelligence, create solutions to problems and identify persistent offenders.

Community Contact Officer Kirsty Miller, who runs the scheme, said: "I would encourage any business that wants to have up to date information about crime in the area and prevention advice to join.

"Through sharing intelligence and promoting crime prevention advice we hope to reduce the number of crimes against businesses in the town."

Those who sign up to the scheme have the option of being involved in a radio network with police and other members to ensure information can be shared immediately as and when incidents occur in shops.

Businesses will also receive regular photographs of persistant offenders in the area.

For more information or to join the Shop Watch scheme contact Kirsty Miller on 0845 456 456 4.
