FOLLOWING the sudden death of George Hawkins, Tenants Forum chairman, the post has been filled on a temporary basis by Ron Butcher, who is also chairman of the Wisbech and District Tenants Association.

Ron has for many years been a tenants' champion. In his capacity as chairman of the Wisbech association, he has been a representative on the Tenants Forum. He has also been heavily involved in the Transfer Options Development Group, which is looking at the possible transfer of almost 4,000 council homes to a housing association.

Ron is a member of the Partner Selection Panel, which will make the decision on a preferred housing association and he is a member of the Shadow Board that would oversee any transfer.

He will continue as temporary chairman of the Tenants Forum until the annual meeting in September.

Ron said: "It is a tall order to take over from George and I can only hope I can do as good a job as he did. I am completely focussed on the needs of tenants and I will be working with the council to ensure that any transfer deal will reflect the best interests of the thousands of tenants.
