More than 50 members of the 1220 (March) squadron air training corps attended an annual formal dinner.

Staff and cadets sat down to eat a four course meal at their dining-in-night hosted at the Conservative Club in March.

After dinner, flight sergeant Ewan MacRae invited attendees to give a loyal toast and then the officer commanding, flight lieutenant Kirsty Burnham, gave a speech which included welcoming new members of the squadron.

Many years ago, the squadron was given a set of submariner’s dolphins by an ex-cadet who is now an officer in the Royal Navy.

Each year these are presented to a cadet who has done something significant that involved water.

This year’s recipient was Cpl Liam Hill who at a recent swimming competition was the only cadet in the senior boys team who managed to come second overall.

It was also a time to ‘dine out’ anyone who had left the squadron during the previous twelve months.

Katie Mowatt was a cadet warrant officer on the squadron until she reached the upper age limit.

Once the formal part of the evening had completed everyone relaxed and the cadets conducted their annual ‘paper plate awards’.
