RESPITE care for carers must not fall prey to NHS cuts "and primary care trust cost shunting to local councils" says Malcolm Moss, MP.

Mr Moss, the MP for NE Cambs, has signed a Parliamentary Early Day Motion concerning the review of the National Carers Strategy. He says he hopes it will offer "a constructive critique of the delivery of the strategy alongside challenges for the future".

He said Conservatives have called on the Government to look into ways to reduce the number of unclaimed carers benefits as well as to give child carers full involvement, where appropriate in the healthcare of those they care for.

"We all owe an immense debt to carers," he said. "The work carers do is unbelievable. Some give up jobs and careers. Others balance work and caring - risking exhaustion, stress, even illness. We must do more to celebrate that work. Helping carers is one of the best ways to help those they are caring for.
