AFTER the deaths of a father and his young son in a Fenland drain, demands have been made for urgent repair work on the Sixteen Foot drain to avoid another tragedy.
Retired farm manager Alan Russell, of Crown Farm ,Christchurch, said: "The verges alongside the 16ft drain have sunk so much that, in places, the road is eight inches higher than the verge beside it."
He said the worst section is about 100 yards each side of the former Wheatsheaf Pub.
Cambridgeshire county Council sent engineers to investigate Mr Russell's concerns. A council spokesman said: "They checked the bank and found no evidence of the bank sinking by eight inches next to the road near the Wheatsheaf or indeed the road's entire length."
He added if there had been any slippage of the bank it would have been identified and dealt with.
