A Cambridge councillor has stepped in to lend support to the re-opening of the Wisbech to March rail line.

Cllr Noel Kavanagh, deputy leader of the Labour group on Cambridgeshire County Council, has tabled a motion of support to next Tuesday’s full council.

He is calling for the council to “continue to investigate and promote the re-use of the railway line as an important element in the Wisbech 2020 vision”.

And he also wants the county council to “identify potential sources of funding for the re-use of the former March to Wisbech line and with Network Rail and other agencies to secure early delivery”.

Cllr Kavanagh will remind councillors of the aim of the 2020 vision for Wisbech which he says is to make the town “a great place to work, a great place to live and a great place to visit”.

He said the county council had already done much to establish the business case for the re-opening of the rail line which was vital to boost jobs and access to jobs elsewhere in the county.
