IF council meetings are held in the evenings, more full-time workers would stand for council election, say the county’s Liberal Democrats.

They want a shift away from Cambridgeshire County Council meetings being held exclusively in the daytime.

A motion calling for the change will be proposed on December 7 by Cllr Ian Manning. It calls for two of the full council meetings and 25 per cent of Overview and Scrutiny Committee meetings to be held outside working hours.

Cllr Manning said: “It can be extremely difficult for anyone with a full-time job to attending meetings during the day. This means we can only attract those people who don’t have to work full-time or have commitments that are extremely flexible.

“By switching some meetings to the evening we can attract a wider range of people and our councillors will be a better reflection of society.”
