Christmas gifts and decorations made by members of the Cambridgeshire Mencap Artworks group in March were put on sale during an open day to celebrate the project’s first year of operation.
Jewellery, decorated bags, crackers and candle holders were among a host of items made by members at their craft sessions.
Creative arts tutor Antonia Cristallino said: “We held the open day to say thank you to our members and volunteers for all their hard work.”
The Artworks team run sessions at the High Street premises on Mondays and Tuesdays, and there are plans to extend the number of sessions for adults with a learning disability in the new year.
Mrs Cristallino added: “We also use the premises for the training of staff and volunteers for Cambridgeshire Mencap, and we run a Saturday befriending group here.”
Arts tutor Deb Matthysz said: “We are planning to run an open gallery next year, with art work by our members and local artists and crafts people. We have a good volunteer base, but we always need more people to get involved.”
Margaret Oatey, a trustee of Cambridgeshire Mencap, added: “I am delighted how the service has evolved in the last year. There has been a number of outreach activities, with members taking part in a flower festival and fashion show at Trinity Church.”
Michelle Mansfield runs a drop in centre for adults with learning disabilities at the centre on the second Tuesday of every month.
She is also behind a move to get a dedicated parking space outside the High Street premises, and a hoist in the toilet.
