The assistant chief constable of Cambridgeshire Police, is set to be given a final written warning for breaching professional standards by trying to help a colleague get a senior promotion,
Assistant Chief Constable Nav Malik, faces the conclusion of a public gross misconduct hearing today (Wednesday 27).
He admitted breaching the standard of professional behaviour at a two day hearing at Wyboston Lakes.
An independent panel recommended that a final written warning be imposed today (Wednesday 27).
Deputy Chief Constable Alan Baldwin will present ACC Malik with the sanction.
His behaviour was called into question after he provided informal mentoring to a fellow police officer for a senior promotion.
The hearing heard that ACC Malik met with interview panel members who agreed to change the wording of one question.
This was then passed to his colleague via another police staff member, to help them prepare for the interview.
The hearing heard that the officer involved, however, was not happy about this.
The incident happened earlier this year in February.
ACC Malik failed to report his conduct.
The hearing heard that his: “conduct was, as you knew or ought to have known, dishonest and lacking in integrity” and was “likely to bring discredit upon the police service.”
