A CAMBRIDGESHIRE animal shelter is running a series of pet care clubs for children in Fenland to promote responsible pet ownership.

Wood Green Animal Shelters is holding the sessions at Burrowmoor Primary School in March on Wednesday afternoons. The five weekly sessions are being delivered by the charity’s education team in a bid to improve animal welfare while giving youngsters more knowledge about looking after pets in the future.

Claire Parsons, education assistant at the Cambridge-based shelter, said: “Each week the club takes a different theme and covers everything a pet owner needs to know about rodents, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats and dogs, with lots of real animals – big and small - going along to help the children learn. “Through fun, interactive and exciting animal activities the aim of the five-week The importance of neutering pets, microchipping, annual vaccinations and understanding why providing flea and worm treatment is important in keeping a healthy and happy pet will also be looked at.
