The collision happened in George Street, Huntingdon, as the learner driver fell victim to the wet conditions on the county’s roads.

Apart from experiencing that obvious moment of embarrassment when such things happen, both the driver – and his instructor – escaped injury.

The car had earlier gone round the sharp bend at the junction from the ring into George Street and opposite Wetherspoons before suddenly careering into the window of Elphicks furniture store.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 9.40am this morning (Thursday 16 August) with reports of a collision in George Street, Huntingdon, involving a black Renault Clio.
