TWO Cambs Times winners shared the honours this morning (Thu) to officially open the new-look Sainsbury store in March following a £1.9 million makeover
As the count down to 9am began, many of the store's workers and managers joined Julie Boyle and Harry Fynn-Brand as they cut the ribbon to declare the store open.
Queues built up as customers began peering through the closed doors of the store to see the massive changes that had been carried out during its six day closure.
Store manager Scott Ward said it was the seventh store he had been involved in re-launching, and the most impressive.
Sixteen new colleagues will be joining the existing store team as part of its recent refurbishment and customers have been busy nominating heroes from the local community to join in the festivities.
In the competition jointly run by Sainsburys and the Cambs Times, there were so many entries the prize was doubled so that two lucky winners could be found to perform the opening ceremony.
Julie Boyle was chosen for her dedication to her family and Harry Fynn-brand for his courage and bravery in the face of adversity.
The store refurbishment includes an improved home furnishings range and the store layout has been modified to ensure a more customer friendly environment.
New check outs have been installed with express till pods and a new customer service desk
Mr Ward said: "We are very excited about the changes to the store and we are also thrilled to be joined by our local heroes Julie and Harry, who have really caught our hearts.
