Camera Club

A FULL house at March Camera Club had a presentation last Thursday by club member Dr Chris Ley on a walk across the Namibian desert, entitled Another Fine Day at the Office. With the aid of an audio-visual presentations he described the adventure he and 31 others took in a trek across the desert in aid of Cancer Research in 2004. His original target was to raise £3,000; he started finding sponsorship in October, 2003 and by various means had raised £4,500 by January, 2004. By the end of the trek he had raised around £5,500 for the charity. He was thanked by vice-chairman Allan Howe.

On Monday the club competed against Wisbech and Hunstanton in a print and slide battle at Wisbech, judged by Jim Till from Brancaster. March were joint winners with Hunstanton in the print section with Mel Harris achieving the highest score for March for his black and white print Empty Choir Stalls. March won the slide section with Albert Horton achieving the highest score for March with a maximum 10 for his colour slide Light and Shade.

Overall, March won the battle, the final result being:1 March 128 points, 2 Hunstanton 122, 3 Wisbech 117.

The previous week the club held its fifth monthly print and slide competition of the 2006/2007 programme, attracting an entry of 13 prints and 16 slides, judged by club members: Colin Baker, Chris Ley and Eric Campbell.

Print section winner was Pat Ringham with a colour photograph entitled Happisburgh Rust. Runner-up was John Band with a colour photograph taken at the Appleby Horse Fair entitled Shampoo Time.

Pat Ringham also won the slide section, coming first with Return to Steam. Joint runners-up were Mel Harris with Bee on a Flower and Eddie Venni with Multispeed.
