A group of 32 cubs, scouts and a cadet gathered for a commemorative camp in March.

Three nights were spent by the 2nd March Saxon and 1st Fenland scouting groups in tents at the Three Fishes camp in Gaul Road, with the sun shining and the local district commissioner doing the catering.

All the activities and badge work were geared towards World War 1 including a hike to the March Museum where the cubs learnt about Percy Cox and his antics.

Mr Cox was a Wimblington man who served in the Leicester regiment during the First World War.

When he was injured in battle he swapped his uniform and identity with a dead Australian soldier.

After the war went to live in Australia under his new assumed name of Ernest Durham.

Other activities enjoyed by the scout group were a page, word, letter code and an obstacle course set up by the scouts.

The group enjoyed a campfire where one scout was invested hanging upside down on the ropes, another was invested by the campfire and a traditional campfire singsong was enjoyed by all followed by chocolate cake.

A big thankyou was sent to March Quality Meats and Riverside Cafe who provided food for the event.
