A resident renewed her call for tougher action on speeding on Wimblington Road, March, after a car was forced onto its roof after the driver clipped a parked car on Friday evening.

The driver of the blue Peugeot car was left with injuries to his arm after colliding with the parked car on Wimblington Road.

“After seeing the car over-turned on its roof it is a miracle that no one was walking on the path as it flipped over after hitting a parked car,” said one local resident.

“When will the police and council wake up and take further measures to reduce the number of speeding vehicle on this approach into town?

“Since the 30mph limit came in it seems more and more vehicles come down this road at 50mph plus and should some one observe the speed limit they get overtaken.”

Police have yet to confirm whether speeding exacerbated the damage caused in Friday’s crash.

The owners of the black parked car are Charlotte Stonier and her partner Tom Graves; they parked it outside their newly renovated home that they had only moved into just two days earlier.

Charlotte said: “I was asleep in the living room, my partner shouted down he thought something had fallen over downstairs then he looked out the window to see a car upside down and my car had been pushed on to the grass verge.

“We went outside and the guy [the blue Peugeot driver] was already out of the car sitting on the pavement, his arm was covered in blood.”

The blue car was driving down the road towards March; the driver clipped the rear of Charlotte’s car, forcing it onto the grass verge.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said: “Two crews from March attended but no fire fighting action was required. All casualties were out when the crews arrived. They returned to the station by 8.15pm.”

Charlotte and her partner have been working on their Wimblington Road property since August last year, spending their second night together during the time of the incident.

Charlotte added: “We only moved our bed in to the property and slept there first time Thursday so Friday was our second night in our house.”

The resident renewing calls for more police action added: “It is only a matter of time before another person is killed on this stretch of road.”
