MORE than 300 cars have been seized across the county in a police crackdown on drivers without insurance or licences.
Sgt Matt Johnson, who is leading the investigation, said: "The fact that this number is so high and continuing demonstrates that there are still some drivers who think it is acceptable to drive without insurance or licence."
Under new powers in operation since the end of February police can now seize the car of any driver who does not have insurance or a licence.
The owner then has 14 days to reclaim their vehicle and any cars not reclaimed within that period will be either crushed or sold at auction.
Sgt Johnson said: "These people are a danger to themselves and others.
"We will not tolerate people driving on the county's roads without the appropriate documentation and will continue with this robust enforcement.
