A CAT suffering from a flea allergy was found abandoned in a Fenland village.

The black, unneutered male cat was found in a cat basket outside a home in Town Street, Upwell, on January 6.

The middle-aged cat has been described as very friendly and was found with a patch of fur missing under his chin, caused by a flea allergy which has now been treated. The cat is currently being looked after by the RSPCA.

Kathy Hornig, RSPCA animal welfare officer, said: “This poor cat was just dumped by someone’s house without a thought for his welfare.

“He had clearly been suffering from his flea allergy for some time and it appears no-one had bothered to take him to a vet to get treatment.

“This little fella is so friendly it is clear that he must have been owned by someone. Why they chose to just dump him we do not know, but we would appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to contact the RSPCA.

“This cat is now receiving the appropriate veterinary care and is doing really well despite the terrible ordeal he has been through.”

Those found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal can face a maximum six-month prison sentence and/or a 20,000 fine.

Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 1234 999.
