Police officers who spotted a driver showing off by wheel spinning repeatedly had his car impounded.

A report on the Cambs Police Facebook page report how the officers responded to complaints about “a young male driver who has continued to drive in an anti social behaviour”.

Reports were fed into police about the driver being spotted in and around the town and police say they “responded to public concerns”.

A police car waited in the Hostmoor Avenue area of town “and saw the vehicle wheel spinning repeatedly.

“As a result the vehicle was stopped and removed to a secure compound and the driver reported”

The motorist would have faced a hefty release fee to get his car back.

A police spokesman said: “If you see vehicles driving in a similar manner putting the public at risk please report incident to local officers.”

Town councillor Jan French said: “Police are doing priorities that have been asked for by the public.”

One resident told police: “When these lads drive through town like they are at Brands Hatch people are not going ‘oh wow how cool are they’ they are actually going what a total idiot.”

Police say they have also been conducting speed checks in Hundred Road, March, Westry and Station Road, Manea following local concerns.

“These locations are in response to the public selecting them at the community forums,” said the spokesman. “Please attend the next meeting so you can select the next priority.”
