Cavalry Primary students hit the right note when arts award certificates were presented to 60 pupils after taking part in a sing for your school project.
The students received their certificates from head of Cambridgeshire music, Matthew Gunn.
The ceremony was followed by a showcase of musical talent, which included a performance by the senior choir and concert band.
The county council’s music team worked with partners to put together the 12-week county-wide ‘Sing for your School’ project, which involved 38 schools writing their own songs.
Councillor Simon Bywater, chairman of the county’s children and young people committee, said: “Seeing all the great talent at the school is music to my ears. Congratulations to everyone who received their arts award.
“I would like to encourage more schools to get involved, it’s a great opportunity for our students to explore other skills and unleash their creative ideas.”
Cavalry Primary School deputy head teacher, Sarah Edwards, said: “It has been wonderful to see the children grow in confidence as performers throughout this inspiring project. We’re already making plans for this year’s sing for your school project.”
Matthew Gunn, head of Cambridgeshire music said: “Sing for your School is not only a great way of getting children and young people involved in song-writing and singing but also thinking creatively about writing lyrics and poems.”
“It was great to hear from so many pupils and teachers about how they had enjoyed the process of creating their verses and choruses and the panel involved in listening to all the fantastic songs was impressed at what had been created.
“I’m delighted that so many children also went on to have their contributions recognised through the National Arts Award Scheme which shows them the value placed on their music-making and composing and hopefully will encourage them to take part in more arts activities both in and out of school.”
The project was funded by the Arts Council of England and Department for Education through Cambridgeshire Music.
Cavalry students performed ‘Cavalry Is Rhythm’ at the grand finale of the event at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, which was written and recorded within the school.
