PCSO James Cox was determined the reckless driver would be brought to book – and conducted what colleagues described as a “full search of the driver” to find the miscreant.

His success has been trumpeted on the Policing Chatteris and March Facebook page where a police spokesman said the go-kart driver had been “issued with a warning” for driving in an anti social manner.

But PCSO Cox wasn’t content to leave the matter there. He issued, said the spokesman, the driver with a section 59 warning.

That means, explained the spokesman, the driver’s words of advice has been backed up with legal powers.

“A section 59 applies to vehicles being used in a manner which causes alarm, distress, annoyance, or where driving is considered to be careless or inconsiderate,” said the spokesman.

“The warning means that if this vehicle is seen to be used in an anti-social manner within the next 12 months, then the police would have the power to seize said vehicle under the Police Reform Act of 2002.”

Some people on social media didn’t agree with the ‘slap on the wrist’ from Cambridgeshire Police.

One resident posted that the go-kart, not the driver of course, “should be crushed; he’ll be on the road again tomorrow”.

Another had an equally cynical view.

“Like that’ll stop them.....not!” he told police.
