A Chatteris author has written a children’s rhyming book just in time for Christmas; it’s seen success and is now being sold in two bookshops in Ely.

Effe Chrisostomou has written the book, The Magic Clock of Tindle Rock – a Christmas tale with an element of magic.

Effe says: “Adults and children alike have enjoyed it so far.”

The book was set to release last year, but with the loss of Effe’s mother everything came to a halt. The book is now dedicated in her name and was released on the one year anniversary of her passing.

Effe said: “I wrote this book by sheer accident. I’ve loved writing poetry since I was 11 and have carried on jotting things down in notepads since then.”

“One day this came to me, I went on for several pages then realised, it would be good as a children’s rhyming book – and I was fed up looking in the shops and libraries and reading just one-worders.”

She started the search for an artist to accompany the words in the book. Richard Sinnett, who previously worked on the Game of Thrones artwork agreed to take the project on.

Effe added: “The book took a matter of hours to write once I got going, then I just tweaked where I felt necessary.

“I have written a small novel and other items before, but this was definitely the longest rhyming I have ever done.”

Effe self published the book through an online service; she said it was “a long haul” but says she will “know more of what to do next time”.

The book is being sold in Burrows Bookshop and Toppings Books in Ely. Effe brought copies of her book to the stores, not knowing they would be displayed in the front window.

She added: “A lady called Alice in the Toppings Books store was very keen, and said it made a nice change for books to rhyme, she loved it straight away – and agreed to take on a few copies.”

The book will soon be available on Amazon; in the meantime, if you wish to buy a copy of the Christmas tale, you can email Effe on: effe.chrisostomou@hotmail.co.uk or call: 07799 872497
