A retired couple from Chatteris have notched up more than 100 holidays with a national travel company, making them some of the company’s most loyal customers.

Cliff and Jen Munns took their first UK break with Grand UK Holidays in 1985, when the over-55s specialist operator was just over a year old.

And now, 31 years later, they have taken over 100 coach touring holidays in this country and feel as if they are “part of the family”.

They have also featured twice in the company’s in-house newspaper, most recently after attending the 2016 Reunion Holiday in Mill Rythe Holiday Village on Hayling Island.

“Our first holiday with Grand UK was to the Grand Ash in Llandudno, and we have been to lots of other places in the UK: Glen Usk in Wales, Newquay, Torquay and the County hotels in Kendal and Skegness,” said Mr Munns.

“Bridlington is our favourite – it was the second holiday that we went on, and we have been going there ever since. We just like the staff and the town; it’s great to walk around.”

The Munns have also used their trips to meet new friends, and enjoy seeing them at reunions each year.

The couple are such fans of the reunions that they’re usually the first to rebook for the following year, and have already signed up for the Mill Rythe reunion in 2017.

“We’ve booked the Bridlington Turkey & Tinsel holiday later this year and we will also have a couple or so holidays in between,” said Mr Munns.

“Normally we take about three or four holidays a year with Grand UK, and always in the UK as there is so much to see here.”

The Chatteris couple also enjoy talking about agriculture and cattle farming at the reunions, as Mr Munns’ nephew farms 1,000 acres in the Fenland town.

Mr Munns said: “My nephew breeds about 1,500 geese a year for the Christmas market, and grows arable crops, so I always bring a bottle of Munns rapeseed oil and a jar of goose fat each year.”

The couple also travel to Portsmouth to visit their son, who runs a pub and organises many fundraising activities for local good causes.
