Six Fen causes have received a boost from the Chatteris Mayor’s charity fund.

The Mayor of Chatteris, Councillor James Carney, gave away cheques totalling more than £800. This sum has been split between Cambridgeshire Hearing Help, MAGPAS, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Chatteris Royal British Legion Youth Section, Chatteris In Bloom and Chatteris Midsummer Festival.

The cheques were presented at an event at the council chambers.

Cllr Carney explained why he had chosen the particular charities. He then invited those present, which included fellow town councillors, to enjoy a buffet prepared by his wife Amy.

Most of the money was raised at his charity ball in February. Cllr Carney and Amy thanked local businesses who had generously donated raffle prizes to boost proceeds on the night.
