Chatteris Mayor Cllr James Carney is holding a fundraiser slightly different to the norm – he’s volunteering to have his legs waxed in public to raise money for local causes.

The event is being held at 7pm on Thursday (29) at the council chambers/museum in Church Lane and spectators are encouraged to come along to watch and make a donation.

Cllr Carney said: “I did this a number of years ago with the Spalding Young Farmer’s Club as a charity event so now I thought I’d go through it all again during my second year in Office. I’m fairly sure that not many, if any, other mayors have done this as part of their fundraising efforts.”

The waxing is being carried out professionally courtesy of Tranquility beauty salon of Park Street Chatteris who are happy to support the event.

If you would like to sponsor Cllr Carney contact the town council office on 01354-695166 or email chatteriscouncil@btconnect.com for further details.

All monies raised will go into the Mayor’s Charity Fund which will then be distributed between different groups and causes at the end of the mayor’s term in office in May 2016.
