‘Ragtime, Hot Rhythm and the Silent Screen’ is the title of Chatteris Music Society’s fourth event of the season which features Keith Nichols and his jazz friends at Chatteris Parish Church on Saturday November 25, starting at 7.30pm.

Keith Nichols is considered one of the foremost authorities on classic, jazz and ragtime, specialising in all older jazz piano styles including Scott Joplin, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller and Duke Ellington.

In 1977 he formed the Midnite Follies Orchestra with arranger Alan Cohen, featuring the Harlem-based music of Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway, and has written many arrangements and transcriptions in the 20’s and 30’s style, notably for the New York Jazz Repertory Company and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra.

He is accompanied by Trevor Whiting (clarinet and saxophone) and Paul Sealey (guitar and banjo). Trevor is a specialist in reed styles from the early New Orleans clarinetists such as Johnny Dodds and Sidney Bechet, through to Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw.
