More than 40 wreaths were laid during the Chatteris Remembrance Day Service.
The Royal British Legion youth took part in the parade in what was described by one onlooker as: “A wonderful turnout for Chatteris.”
The parade marched from Furrowfields car park though the town to the war memorial and the salute taken by Col Derek Bristow OBE.
Wreath layers were called forward by parade marshall, major Norman Larke.
The remembrance service was conducted by the Reverend Canon Wendy Thomson.
Later in the afternoon there was an everyman remembered service for George Hills who was killed on November 12 1917.
• On Saturday November 25 from 10.30am to 4pm at Chatteris Working Mens’ Club there is a WWI living history day. There is a chance to look round an original WWI field hospital, see medical equipment, talk to the nurses or Wenches in Trenches as they explain the chain of evacuation on the battlefields and more.
You will be able to hold original WWI items, take part in activities, try a slice of trench cake as made and sent to the frontline, learn about George Clare VC, his role in WWI and why he’s a Chatteris Hero.
