Members of the Chatteris Tennis Club were out in the sun on Sunday (July 1) when they competed in a mixed doubles tournament.

Seventeen members of group took part in the club’s annual Priddey Cup Mixed Doubles Tournament, overseen by the club’s committee member Tony Finch.

A spokesman said: “Playing in a round robin format, the tournament enabled each participant to play with a succession of different partners.

“When early in the tournament one player had to withdraw through injury, the opportunity arose for Francis Antonio, one of the club’s aspiring juniors to step in and participate in competition with adult members for the first time.”

Francis said: “It was a totally new experience, but I enjoyed the challenge!”

The spokesman added: “In a close fought tournament, a play-off final saw Lee Enstone and Miriam Penegar overcome Duncan Hobbs and Shona Kent to win the Men’s and Ladies trophies.

“The event concluded with a delicious BBQ and tennis’s traditional Strawberries and Cream.”
