A group of youngsters played tennis from sunrise to sunset in memory of their former coach who died last year.

Twenty-two children, aged between six and 18, played for a combined 62 hours at Chatteris St Peter’s Tennis Club, raising £1,133.26 for MacMillan Cancer Support.

The challenge was the idea of one of the club’s youngest members Jamie Wootton, who thought it would be a fitting way to remember tennis coach Laurie Finch.

Organiser Helen Wootton said: “Laurie was a terrific coach and this event was a great way of remembering all he did for the young members of our tennis club.

“The enthusiasm shown by all the youngsters involved was a credit to them all.

“I would like to thank St. Peter’s Tennis Club for the use of the venue, Mark Petrou and Graham Arthur for the barbecue food, friends for donations of cakes and Andrew Parsonage for the donated barbecue.”
