IN the absence of a rector, the Parochial Church Council meeting was chaired by churchwarden Philip Glover.

The chairman reported that the advertisement for the vacancy of rector had been in two issues of The Church Times and that interviews would take place on Wednesday, March 7. He asked people to be available on that day to help. A vote of thanks was passed for the help given to the parish by the Rev Sheila Tooke and Stephen Tooke.

Peter James reported on the support that had brought about the changes to the west end of the church and that the very useful meeting place would be known as 'The West End'. Comfortable chairs had been ordered and these had been donated to the memory of Irene Bellamy and Audrey Fountain. He also reported that events were about to take place in this area. Future plans include U3a, telephone line for www. connection, a noticeboard and to try to seek funding. A project meeting will be held in 'The West End' on February 8 (7.30pm).

Mr Glover also reported that the church doors were to be repainted, the footpath repaired and that the stokehole door had been replaced.

He went on to explain that the surveyor would be attending to report on the fabric of the church. He also pointed out that the electoral roll would be scrapped this year and a new one started, and that forms were available.

Jackie Lord reported that a sausage and mash lunch would be held on Saturday, February 24 (noon) with entertainment from The Acorn Singers. On Friday, March 23 (7.30pm) a concert will take place in the church presented by 'Thomas Eaton School and Friends'

It was also decided to have a St Peter's Tide, gift day and early summer sale, at the church on Saturday June 30 (10am).
