VOLUNTEERS of March Citizens' Advice Bureau settled in to their new surroundings this week after reopening in March Library.

Their move was agreed by Cambridgeshire County Council in July after months of uncertainty following a cut in funding by Fenland District Council.

Linda Hutchinson, Fenland CAB district manager, said: "We are very grateful for Cambridgeshire County Council for allowing us to use the library. At one stage we thought we would have to close all our facilities in March, but the county council offered us the lifeline. We are in a more central area of the town and I think we are going to be busier."

The CAB, a registered charity which helps people resolve legal and financial problems by providing free information and advice, has initially got a one-year contract to operate at the library, but if the agreement works for all parties it is likely to continue.

The charity had its annual funding from Fenland District Council cut from £90,000 to £81,000, and a plea for support from businesses saw a tiny amount of donations.

But after moving out of their branch in High Street, they reopened in the library on Monday and will work out of two rooms, one an office and the other a private interview room. There is also a dedicated waiting area for visitors.

Mrs Hutchinson said: "We have one less interview room so clients may have a slightly longer wait, but we are looking at different ideas of working, looking at quicker initial interviews. If it is a lengthy query, people will possibly be asked to come back."
